Description: Clinical Services for Youth is a community-based lifeline for youth and families. CSY, formerly Stopover Services, has been working with youth since 1981, and in 2006 merged with East Bay Community Action Program through which it continues to offer crisis intervention, counseling and outreach geared toward achieving stability for youth and families. Through its primary work with adolescents, the staff has developed expertise and special insights into the strengths, struggles and concerns of both teens and their families. The CSY therapists have a style and approach that addresses the needs of families while helping young people to develop and maintain a healthy sense of autonomy and self-esteem. The scope of services includes bio-psycho-social assessments; individual, group, and family therapy; and psycho-educational group, as well as referrals to community agencies as needed.

The CSY team of experienced therapists provides counseling on an individual basis for youth and also provides family therapy and mediation. CSY offers school-based counseling and currently has Student Assistance Counselors located at both Tiverton Middle School and Wilbur McMahon School in Little Compton. Therapists provide services at other schools in Newport County as needed. The approach is creative and flexible. Counseling services are provided to clients and their families at the Clinical Services for Youth office, or scheduled visits can be arranged at the school, home, or other convenient location.

CSY offers services through the Youth Diversionary Program with the intention of diverting youth from the juvenile justice system and preventing families from involvement with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families. Wayward and Disobedient (Article 23) clients are referred to CSY by police departments in Newport County communities.  Parents wishing to explore this service for getting help managing the behavior of their youth may contact staff for information about the process.
