Philosophy:
We provide care for women and their families throughout pregnancy, birth, and beyond. We offer personalized, family-centered care with shared decision-making and support for your birth preferences. What’s important to you is important to us! We believe that pregnancy and birth are normal, healthy events the majority of the time. We seek to honor the process and offer evidence-based interventions only when necessary. When there is medical need for a c-section, Landmark Medical Center is the area leader in the Gentle Cesarean technique to maximize mother-infant bonding during cesarean birth, and this is offered by our own Dr. Ashley Lakin.

Locations of Care:

We provide comprehensive maternity and newborn care at our health centers in East Providence and Newport. We choose to deliver babies at the Birthing Center at Landmark Medical Center (LMC). The Birthing Center at LMC provides our patients and their families with a comfortable, intimate environment in which to meet their new babies. With large private rooms with showers, an experienced and friendly nursing staff, a wide range of available pain management options (including hydrotherapy and nitrous oxide), our patients are able to welcome their babies into the world safely and on their own terms. We have found that the level of experience and evidence-based practices of the staff of physicians, midwives and nurses combine for some of the best birth outcomes (and experiences) available in the region. When needed, such as in the case of a premature delivery, we are able to coordinate care for our patients at regional tertiary care hospitals.

Meet Our Providers:

We are a small team of women physicians and midwives who are dedicated to supporting and empowering women and their families through the life stages of pregnancy, birth, motherhood, and beyond. We choose to work together driven by this shared passion, as well as the joy of being with women as they grow their families. Together, we have delivered over a 1,000 babies, and witnessed as many women becoming mothers! Our training includes expertise in normal pregnancy and childbirth, family medicine, breastfeeding, as well as high-risk obstetrics and surgery. We are proud to maintain both a low rate of Cesarean section and high rate of successful Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC), and we continually strive for the best possible outcomes for our moms and babies—feel free to ask us for our most recent stats. We have a wide range of personal and life experiences between us, as well as 9 kids, ages brand new to 20. We serve as faculty in the Department of Family Medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
