The East Bay Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is a program for individuals 55 years and older who want to contribute their time and energy to impact and improve conditions in the community. Over 750 volunteers make a positive difference in the lives of their neighbors, while meeting friends and developing new interests and skills at 150 sites from East Providence to Newport. In addition, on behalf of our Senior Center Supportive Services and Health Promotion programs, in partnership with our staff, RSVP volunteers assist in faciliating ‘A Matter of Balance’ and ‘Healthy Eating  for Older Adults’ evidence based workshop series at various senior centers and housing sites.

Members of the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) provide a unique service built on the natural bond between generations. The Foster Grandparent Program is the bridge that connects these generations. Volunteers help children develop the skills, confidence, and strength to succeed in life. Foster Grandparents make their neighborhoods stronger by assisting children in need at schools, Head Start sites, Boys & Girls Clubs, libraries and other non-profit organizations throughout the East Bay. Volunteers must be 55 years or older and meet certain income eligibility requirements. Foster Grandparents receive a modest hourly tax-free stipend, travel allowance, meals, paid holidays and accident and liability while on duty.

East Bay RSVP/FGP services the city of East Providence and both Bristol and Newport Counties.

Regional Point Grant Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provides counselors who offer clients information, referral, access and “Options Counseling” services to seniors, their families, and caregivers within the east bay, through collaborative partnerships with community agencies.

The Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) answers questions and counsels Medicare beneficiaries and caregivers about Medicare, Medicare Part D (low income subsidized program), Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage, Medicare prescription drug plans, long-term care insurance and other health insurance concerns. The counselors offer free and unbiased counseling on Medicare health care products.

The East Bay Retired Senior Volunteer Program (SMP) Senior Medicare Patrol

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) at East Bay Community Action provides IRS-trained tax preparers through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) to provide tax preparation services to clients and help them to receive the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). EITC reduces the federal tax one owes, and can result in a refund.
